Problem Note 58186: SAS® Visual Data Builder might use the wrong application server for scheduling

DetailsAboutRate It

SAS Visual Data Builder might initially use the wrong path to save the job for a scheduled query. This problem can occur when there are multiple application servers defined at your site. For example, your site might have both SASApp and SASAppVA.

Specifically, the first time you attempt to schedule, your application server preference might be ignored. Instead, SAS Visual Analytics might attempt to use a path specific to the first valid workspace server found in metadata. When this happens, you see an error that is similar to this one:

com.sas.databuilder.persistence.DataAccessRuntimeException: com.sas.databuilder.service.VdbServiceException: com.sas.svcs.workspace.client.GeneralServiceExceptionHolder: Physical file does not exist, /<sas-config-dir>/Lev1/SASApp/SASEnvironment/ SASCode/Jobs/vdb_myquery_47365827664.sas

There are a few workarounds for this issue. If a particular solution does not work for you, then you must try one of the others.

  • Attempt to schedule the query again. Typically, the correct application server is used the second time you attempt to schedule in the same session.
  • If you do not require access to the application server referenced in the error message, then your system administrator can change your metadata permissions so that you do not have ReadMetadata permission for the server. A denial of ReadMetadata prevents SAS Visual Analytics from identifying the server as valid when you attempt to schedule.
  • In SAS® Management Console, your system administrator can remove the server referenced in the error from the JobExecutionService. Specifically, navigate to Application Management ► Configuration Manager ► SAS App Infrastructure ► Web Infra Platform Services. Right-click JobExecutionService and open its properties. On the Settings tab, remove the server shown in the error message from the Selected list. Restart the web application server where the SAS® Web Infrastructure Platform is deployed.
  • Note: Removing the server also affects distribution in SAS® Visual Analytics Designer.

For information about how to properly configure scheduling, see SAS Note 52977.
